Welcome to www.the1881.com and the new look website dedicated to the singing section.
Here, you’ll be able to navigate yourself around the site and learn more about the singing section, how to get involved, details on seat movement and information on how to extend your match-day experience by visiting your all-new, recently-adopted and inclusive ‘home supporters’ only pub, where you’ll be greeted by a barmy army of like-minded Watford vocalists.
So, what does the 12th man mean to you?
Twelve months in and the singing section has evidently grown. No longer do us supporters turn up on match-day wondering – sometimes hoping – what the atmosphere will be like; good, bador indifferent. In recent years, it’s been the latter two.
Nowadays, we no longer need to hope. Our match-day experience has just got better.
It’s easy to forget the days of old when pockets of supporters will, with great effort, vocally back the team, albeit from different areas of the stadium. But the noise rarely travelled. Then you’d get your bog-standard every-season, least attractive games which rarely attracted any vocal support from the home end at all. We’d all sit there, venting our frustrations or cheering as goals are scored, but the level of noise would instantly drop. We’ve all experienced it, and I’m sure we’ve all gone home feeling a little deflated by it – even after a win!
The good news is that these days are over. They’re gone.
From the outset, the very first murmur to be vocalised was the intention to establish a group of ‘singers’, a group that could sit together and vocally support the team – trouble-free.
And so the recruitment process started. It mattered not one jot whether those attracted to the singing section were young or old, fat or thin, local or otherwise. Singing qualifications were irrelevant (which is sometimes blatantly obvious!), the manner or style in which you choose to support the team would pass us by without prejudice. The singing section is widely catered for and every face fits – families, groups of mates, colleagues... everyone! (Except Bas).
And so here we are, 12 months in and the singing section is very much in force. No more ‘hoping’ for a decent atmosphere as opposed to sitting there in the cold waiting for the final whistle. No more sitting from afar and wondering what the fuss is all about. No more going to the football alone, because now, there’s a group of supporters with the same passion for Watford – whatever level this may be – waiting to greet you.
And it’s with your support, your commitment to making the Rookery one of the best atmospheric stands in the country, will this group grow. With over 400 members, we expect to increase this figure by 100 over the summer, and we hope to increase this by a further 100 members year on year.
You don’t need me to say it, but what are you waiting for? Moving over to us is easy, Just call the ticket office and request to move to the 1881 singing section today !
